The MasterCard Foundation has partnered with ChildFund to expand the capacity of nursing and midwife training schools in Zambia. The partnership will create employment opportunities for young people as qualified nurses and midwives.
There is a national shortage of trained healthcare staff in Zambia resulting in a 100 percent placement rate of graduates in the last three years. The Ministry of Health has made training healthcare workers a national priority and is open to innovative approaches that increase the capacity of its institutions and skill levels of health workers. The e-learning model adapted by AMREF and used in Kenya has been successfully evaluated and has been replicated in Uganda and Tanzania.
