Education and Learning Program

The Education and Learning Program provides access to secondary and university education for academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people.

In addition to removing financial barriers to education, our Program provides vulnerable youth with support services such as mentoring, life skills training and job market information. This support helps young people gain confidence and realize their full potential. It also increases the likelihood of successfully moving on to higher education or employment.

This work goes beyond providing access. Thought this Program, we also collaborate with other funders to pilot innovative models that can improve the quality of secondary education. This collaboration focuses on three areas: improving teacher education and instruction, upgrading curricula and integrating technology as a teaching and learning tool.

Our Education and Learning Strategy

  • Supports the education of young Africans and emphasizes the transitions from school to employment, entrepreneurship or further study.
  • Use technology where relevant to improve teacher training and learning outcomes and to provide opportunities for broader access.
  • Partner with organizations, including education and teacher associations, who are able to influence and diffuse practices across education systems.
