Financial Education for Micro-Entrepreneurs in Kenya
In 2009, we partnered with Equity Group Foundation to deliver a nation-wide financial education program in Kenya, where more than half of the population lives on less than $2 a day and approximately 11 million do not have access to financial services. To date, the program – called FiKA – has trained more than 300,000 people on basic financial skills, so they can grow their businesses and create economic opportunities for themselves. Participants enroll in a 12-week comprehensive course that covers budgeting, savings, debt management, financial negotiations and banking services. They also learn how to use a range of financial services, such as savings, insurance and credit products.
This short film provides an overview of how the FiKA program is equipping micro-entrepreneurs in Kenya with the tools and resources they need to be successful.
