ICCO‘s mission is to work toward a world without poverty and injustice by security sustainable livelihoods. Over the past 5-years, ICCO has linked with 520,900 smallholder farmers and producer organizations. This project will strengthen farmer organizations by introducing sustainable farmer training models to accompany the use of new financial products developed by microfinance institutions. It expands The MasterCard Foundation’s partnerships into West Africa and Ethiopia. The project will provide a better understanding of: the types of agricultural finance services and non-financial service channels that are most valued by smallholder farmers; the types of financial products that are most cost-effective and sustainable for institutions; and how to best communicate good practice in order to stimulate replication by financial institutions. The project will increase income and food security for 210,000 smallholder farmers and their families and indirectly impact 1 million people in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Senegal.
