Over the last 10 years, The MasterCard Foundation has been working with many extraordinary organizations to advance education, skills training and financial services to more than 10 million people across Africa. Collaboration, partnerships and learning characterize how we are working in pursuit of our vision of a world where there is opportunity for all to learn and prosper.

Throughout 2016, the Foundation’s 10th Anniversary, we celebrated our partners and the people who are served through our programs.  They inspire us. For example, Bezawit, a MasterCard Foundation Scholar in secondary education in Ethiopia, believes that investing in young people is one of the most significant things we can do. Marianne, a participant in our skills training partnership with CAP Youth Empowerment Institute in Kenya, is working hard so she can inspire others to follow in her footsteps. These young people are creative, resourceful and vital to the future of Africa. We have learned a lot from them over the years and continue to learn from them every day.

We believe that when people are equipped with the right skills and tools to improve their lives, they gain confidence and see that a better future is possible. Philanthropy can inspire and support this change. Done well, our work is a powerful force for a more equitable and inclusive world.

We are now looking ahead to the next decade, and how we can continue to invest and have the greatest impact in Africa’s future.
